The first step would be to determine what is wrong with the original 300W PSU. See here. There s also a little trick, read from message 7 with a hair dryer.

You old PSU had only the basic connectors. See here24 Pin Connector4-Pin Floppy ConnectorSATA Connector Peripheral power connectorATX12V connector

The PSU you purchased likely was over 300W, and had PCIE connectors. See here for article on connectors.

As your across the pond, here is a UK supplier and my choice Corsair430W just connect what is needed.

Please can someone help me to find a good graphics card for my pc, the model is: HP Compaq Elite 8300 Ultra-slim PC.

I want to play Counterstrike Source and it plays OK at the moment, but the graphics don t look very good.

Because the PC is so small, I think it needs some kind of modified graphics card and none of the models on page  5232866. tab models doesn t suggest a graphics card.

I own a HP Touchsmart 610 Intel I7-2600 CPU 3.4GHz and this situation did not occur for the first year I operated the computer. The PC is fine except when I do any cpu intensive things such as converting a video file from one format to another. The fan gets faster faster and then the machine completely shuts down. I can feel that the vents are quite hot. I loaded he latest drivers and opened up the machine and cleaned inside to no avail.  The room is not warm and there is no obstuction near the vents. As I stated,  the machine operated perfectly for the first year. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience.

I understand that the blue light does not come on now when you start up your computer. I have read your post and in the first one you give a list of possible things that could be causing it. You can and the power button itself to that list. Now I have been unable to find any hardware documentation that would assist you with fixing this. The only issue I doubt it could be is the drivers as this light comes up before even the BIOS loads. Now as the issue you are describing appears to be a physical issue, if you are concerned enough to need it fixed you could contact HP technical support for repair options. As well a local computer store should be able to resolve it as well.

Well I am glad we are closer than before to getting all your wireless accessories to work properly. Now were you able to uninstall the old keyboard software. This must be uninstalled before before the wireless keyboard can be used. Follow the steps listed below:

1. Start Control Panel Add/Remove programs Remove any item in the list that relates to a keyboard

3. Open Device Manager Search Device Manager and open

4. Under Keyboards/Mice and other pointing devices, right click the name of keyboard and select properties

NOTE:If the keyboard or mouse is not displaying in Device Manager, the computer is not recognizing the device. Try turning the device off and on, and resync the device

5.  Check the status of the keyboard or mouse on theGeneraltab. Do you see it listed here.

The next step requires you to download the most updated drivers for your keyboard, however the latest compatible keyboard software is only compatible with Windows Vista. This may be why the keyboard is not being recognized. I would like you to go ahead and follow the above steps and let me know if your wireless keyboard is recognized in the device manager.

Hi. I got a very important update on the situation and it has to do with the electrical wiring in my place. Earlier today I ve got a brand new power cord with two computer/monitor ends and when I plugged it into an electrical outlet, I got/had the following results on my multimeter:

120-125 VAC between HOT and NEUTRAL legs/holes. which is normal

72-74 VAC between HOT and GROUND legs/holes. which normal is 120-125 VAC

40-43 VAC between NEUTRAL and GROUND legs/holes. which normal is 0 VAC

Both ends on the power cord had the same readings above and the electrical outlet it was plugged into during testing itself too has the same readings above. My current place also has aluminum wiring and two outlets on the same line/circuit than the problem computer recently burned up less than a year ago today too as a result of the aluminum wiring. I opened up the electrical outlet boxes and found that the electrical outlets were grounded to the metal electrical box by the two mounting screws top and bottom parts of the electrical outlet where the metal ears/bracket on an electrical outlet are typically found. Should I add an insulated grounding wire between the metal box and the green screw on the electrical outlet for better grounding to the computer. The electrical outlets and light switches are also really old they ll like 50 years old and they still have a good grip on the electrical plugs and I think those are the original electrical outlets/light switches at my place because the place was built in 1968/1969 and should I replace the electrical outlet under the computer desk and where the computer plugs into. The wall light switches are loose too. I m planning to move at a new place soon and the new place We re planning to move to is built in 1988/1989 and the electrical outlets and light switches are in much better shape, the electrical wiring is properly grounded and it is copper wiring and there s a few missing lighting fixtures and I m planning to install lighting fixtures where they re currently missing. Could a bad equipment ground interfere with normal operation of a desktop computer especially the motherboard, power supply, hard drive, and the same bad grounding problem probably destroyed another desktop computer that I had in the past at the exact same location too. Should I properly ground the circuit before I use the computer again. Whenever the computer shuts off, I think the power supply actually shuts everything off because of bad grounding because the hard drive stops spinning, CD and Floppery drives stops reading when the computer restarts. The power cord and surge protector had all three of the prongs attached to their plugs. What I m thinking to do is temporarily plug the computer into another electrical outlet on another circuit with good grounding with an extension cord and see if it ll come on, if not than the hard drive had indeed gone bad and I ll try to get another one from my Florida Hospital computer/network techician neighbor with a reinstallion operating system/system recovery disc.

Once Thank you for your help and sorry about this long update,

Hi, Long time no reply, I got a breaking update on my problematic computer.

When I turn it on and off for a few times now I noticed something strange, the strange thing is that everything flashes off and comes back on when I press the power button and when Windows XP boots up and I think this is the problem. One of the power supply plugs and/or wires might have became loose during transport to my place or it might simply be the electrical outlet that I m using to power the computer isn t supplying good voltage and I also think that caused another computer to fail at the same spot. Once again it was working fine at my friend s place. I think I ll open it up once again to reseat the connections on the motherboard coming from the power supply hoping that this was the problem all along that time and I hope that the power supply hasn t gone bad during transport. Is the flashing something normal. I m thinking it s not normal because it does it too often and can eventually lead to permanent damage and failure and It s going to get very costly to get it fixed.

Once again, Thank You for your help and suggestions.

Sounds like a hardware/BIOS issue to me.

See if clearing the CMOS helps and try again.

There are 3 HP 1420t models, so go to the model support page for your specific model, click on the product specs line then click on the motherboard line, and at the bottom of the page there is info for how to clear the cmos.

us dlc en lc en tool query 1420t

Read the info at the link below for how to clear the cmos.

If that doesn t fix the issue, I don t have any other suggestions for you, because clearly something is not right with the PC.

The specifications for your PC indicate that your PC has a 3TB hard drive.  That hard drive should be used to store data objects.

You can certainly relocate redirect your user data files such as: My documents, my videos, my pictures etc. to the 3TB hard drive.  Review this article.  I recommend that you do this first before trying to add a second SSD.

Yes it is possible to add a second SSD or a hard drive depending on how your PC is configured.

Windows 8 storages spaces are a possibility when using multiple drives. Here is another good article to review on Windows 8 storage spaces.  Windows 8 storage spaces will not work with the exisiting boot drive I did have it working once but I can t seem to get that to work any more.

If you add another hard drive then you could either configure your system for Windows storage spaces or change the bios settings and run the two hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration improved performance if you are not that concerned about a hardware failure.

I have just replaced my old HP Pavilion desktop PC with a new one model 500-119ea running Windows 8.  I prefer my KB-0630 keyboard to the rubbish unbranded one which came with the new computer but unfortunately it does fit into the keyboard socket.  Is there a similar keyboard to the 0630 which will fit.

I can t tell from the information that I have looked at how much lateral movement there is with the SATA connector that plugs into the hard drive. If you have enough cable slack and the cable can be positioned left or right then a typical 2.5 to 3.5 SSD bracket would probably work.  If you don t have enough slack and/or if the SATA cable bracket is screwed down most likely then you will need  to use an offset 2.5 to 3.5 bracket so that when the SSD and bracket is mounted into the removable drive cage the SSD will then properly align with the SATA connector.

Buy a SSD large enough at least 160GB but preferably 250 GB  to allow for the HP recovery media to be fully loaded.  This will allow you to use the HP diagnostic and Tools, the recovery partition and improve performance when accessing these partitions.

Check with HP Partsurfer and see if they can locate a bracket from a similar model that would work.

I am positive it is 64 bit. I ve had this pc for 6 years now. I bought PNY gb DDR2 PC2 6400. Like I said though. It keeps showing at least one working. I understand what you re saying about the 32 bit only allowing 3.5. But, Thats just not the case here. When I had all 3 installed in slots 2,3, and 4, Only 4 gb still showed up. However before I bought these, as I said before, I had 1 gb sticks in slots 2,3, and 4 because I thought the 1 slot was working, and they all showed up as 3 gb total ram. I dont get it either but this is what I need to upgrade to windows 8 for because I am taking some online college courses in the computer field. Thanks Again

Pictures come out mostly bluish.  No yellow shows at all.  Ink is HP and plenty of ink in printerr

Printer gives insufficient memory error whenever I turn it on.  It starts printing and then immediately says canceling and repeats this loop endlessly, while printing a page with the error mssg on it continuously until all the paper was used up.  Printer is only1-1/2 years old.  What is the fix for this.
